Open Graph image best practices for SaaS

October 23, 2026 · 9 min read

Link previews are often the first brand impression in Slack, LinkedIn, or iMessage. A consistent 1200×630 card with logo and product name beats a random dashboard screenshot, and it should match the favicon people already saw in the tab.

Size and safe area

Design at 1200×630 (1.91:1). Keep text and the logo away from the outer ~10%; some networks crop hard. If you care about large cards on X, export a 1200×628 twin as well.

Aim under about 1 MB. Huge PNGs slow unfurls on mobile networks without looking sharper.

Layouts that scan in a feed

SaaS cards that work usually combine a clear product name, one short promise, and the mark, not a paragraph. High contrast between type and background survives compression.

Avoid UI screenshots with tiny fonts; at card size they become gray noise. If you must show product UI, crop to one panel and overlay the logo.

Same logo as the favicon

Generate OG from the same upload as favicon and app icon so tab chrome and social unfurl feel like one company. Reuse theme and background colors from the Launch Kit brand fields.

Meta tags and cache busting

Set og:image, og:title, og:description, twitter:card=summary_large_image, and absolute https image URLs on production. Relative paths fail on many crawlers.

After replacing an OG file at the same URL, platforms may keep the old image for days. Prefer a new filename or a version query when you intentionally refresh creative, then re-run each network's debugger.
