Google Play screenshot requirements and best practices

October 20, 2026 · 7 min read

Play Console is more forgiving about images than App Store Connect and far more particular about the listing as a whole. The sizes are simple. The judgement calls are not.

The sizes

A phone listing takes screenshots at 1080×1920. That is the single slot — you are not choosing between device sizes the way you are on iOS. Tablets get their own sets: 1200×1920 for 7-inch and 1600×2560 for 10-inch, each with a landscape counterpart.

Above them sits the feature graphic, 1024×500, which sits behind your app icon and title at the top of the listing. It is the only graphic a listing must have.

  • Phone screenshot — 1080 × 1920, up to 8
  • 7" tablet — 1200 × 1920, up to 4
  • 10" tablet — 1600 × 2560, up to 4
  • Feature graphic — 1024 × 500, exactly 1
  • Format — 24-bit PNG or JPEG, 8 MB maximum per file

The first screenshot is a search result

On Play, the first phone screenshot is what people see in search results, before they open the listing. It is not a summary of your app; it is a thumbnail that has to work at about a third of the width it was designed for.

That changes what belongs on it. A headline that reads well in a full-width preview is unreadable at thumbnail size. One idea, large type, no more than a few words. The device UI behind it should be a supporting detail, not the subject.

Full-bleed, and no frame on top of a frame

Play renders your image edge to edge. A phone bezel around your artwork is a choice, but a phone bezel around a capture that already shows a phone is a mistake — you get two rounded corners, two shadows, and a visible seam.

Most strong Play listings use a full-bleed canvas with no bezel at all. The artwork gets the whole 1080×1920, which is more room for the headline and the UI behind it.

A checklist before you publish

Play review rejects listings for a small number of recurring reasons. The graphics are most of them.

  • The feature graphic is 1024×500 and nothing else — not 1024×501.
  • Every phone image is exactly 1080×1920, not 1080×1921.
  • No more than 8 phone screenshots and 4 per tablet device type.
  • Nothing important sits within a few pixels of the edge, because the store crops.
  • No prices, no ratings, no promotional badges in the artwork itself — Play adds those.
  • No device frames around captures that already include a device.

Play and the App Store need separate files

The artwork can be shared; the files cannot. A Play phone shot is 1080×1920 and an App Store iPhone shot is 1320×2868 — different aspect ratios, so one image cannot be both without letterboxing or cropping.
